Update on the Myredbook Saga

There are no updates in the news, so I figured I would check PACER for information. Apparently, Annmarie Lanoce made a plea in the myredbook case on November 20, 2014, and now Eric Omuro will be doing the same.

Annmarie Lanoce appeared in court and made a guilty plea to one count of the indictment. She has a plea agreement; however, it is not accessible in PACER to the public as most plea agreements are not, especially when they involve agreement to testify against a co-defendant. This resulted in Eric Omuro also entering a change of plea in the case in short time (December 1, 2014). Here is a link to the stipulation that gives him an additional week before entering this plea change so there's time to examine the discovery more closely and/or work out a better deal:

Hopefully Mr. Omuro will not be sentenced to any time in prison. I will check PACER again in short time to see a sentencing date. Annmarie Lanoce has a sentencing date, but it will be changed if Eric Omuro has not entered a plea in the case. This is done to secure her testimony should Omuro decide to go ahead to trial.

Emails and Responses on the Escort Business

If you have emailed me with questions or to make statements and I have not answered, there are numerous possible reasons. Sometimes people email with a flood of questions and statements and to respond is just not possible as it is all overwhelming. I do appreciate those that read Blueprint For an Escort Service and want to open an escort service, but I am also a firm believer that the escort business is not for everyone.

I am also in poor health and have other situations to deal with in my life. Usually the back and forth exchanges that go on and on are the problem. No matter how I answer questions, some people have only more questions. My BS meter shoots sky-high on this stuff and I simply do not have time for it.

The fact is that if you have read the book, researched as advised in the book, and read it a second time to take notes, you would know that your questions are answered in the book. You do not need me to tell you this fact.

The book is a guide to assist you with your own specific research relevant to your chosen area of operation and the type of escort or entertainment business that you want to own. The book is also informative as to many situations you will encounter and offers the benefit of my experience. There is never a one-size-fits-all as all escort services are not the same. I won't be able to operate your business for you.


A list of possible reasons that your email(s) did not receive a response:


1. You have made one or more statements in your email(s) that would be legally compromising to me if I responded without correcting you. Most likely, I do not have the time to correct you.

2. Your questions are answered in the book and you really need to reread it and take notes, if you're serious about this project. If you are not serious, then why are you bothering me?

3. You are making so many statements and asking so many questions that responding requires an essay or even multiple essays. You are over-thinking the entire situation. Opening and operating an escort business is not rocket science.

4. You give me so much praise and love that it is not believable. Not sure what made you think I fell off a turnip truck somewhere in Idaho. I did not - I can assure you of that fact.

5. Sounds like you want me to do all of your local research for you. Not happening - unless you'd like to pay me by the hour. My rates are on the Consultant Services page of my website.

6. You seem to want an ongoing chat in email. Sorry, but I do not have the time for this sort of thing in my life.

7. Your questions should be directed to an attorney. I am not an attorney and have no desire to be one.

8. Your email(s) sound like you are writing a book.

9. You sound like you work for the government.

10. You sound like you have no clue how to run any sort of business and expect others to do it all for you.

11. You inform me that you want to open an escort business, but you have no money. You want to know what you can do to make it work. Hell, I suffered for an entire year to save the money to get the business opened correctly - and I had a 9 to 5 job! If you want it, you'll get the money. And back then the only real form of advertisements were the Yellow Pages, which were not cheap.

There are other potential issues. I usually respond to emails; however, I can't even imagine why anyone would think I should answer their 20 questions when it is clear that they have not read the book. I do NOT repeat my books in emails.

So, if you are truly interested in making your project work, put your time and effort into it and do your necessary research. Cutting corners is not the answer. As stated in the book, the escort business is not for everyone, especially if this is not something you can handle.

Entrepreneurship Today

This is for the entrepreneur on a serious budget and not intended for anyone starting a classic business requiring a brick and mortar location or major funding. This is about earning a decent living working for yourself with minor investment and leaving the wage slave workforce.

I often find that people fear leaving the safety of a paycheck job, though that weekly or biweekly check usually doesn't cover the basics, like rent, electric, cable/internet, auto insurance and repair, water bill etc... if you also plan to buy food and necessities. Many months one chooses what to pay by level of importance. No one should have to live like that.

Once you take the plunge and work for yourself for a while, you're almost unemployable. The self-employed rarely reenter the wage slave workforce. If you try to return to that lifestyle, you find yourself constantly questioning how others operate their businesses and considering how you could easily improve their methods or change something altogether. You're frequently questioning situations and in a short time, the employer realizes that you won't work out. You realize that you're a much better planner and leader than you are at following directions that make little sense.

With several jobs that I had following my court case, I found myself questioning why I was charged with racketeering in comparison to these so-called legitimate businesses. A couple of places I worked were prime candidates for racketeering prosecutions in Florida. You'd laugh if I told you where specifically.

The escort service business is one potential solution. You run it your way and there are no real line in the sand guidelines. If you want a day off, you simply take it. If you want more money, you cover the phones 24/7. Need a vacation? No problem - you either pay someone else that you trust to answer your lines or leave them unanswered. It's your choice - that is what being in business for yourself is supposed to be all about from my perspective.

Of course you have other options besides the escort business, but realistically, nothing else compares when you consider the money and the choices open to you. Trust me on that assessment - I've tried to find a substitute since my case concluded with my acquittal back in 2003. Sure, I've found other things to do that create small streams of income, but nothing that could touch the escort business in the areas of money or convenience. There are no options with the flexibility of opening and operating an escort business.

I feel like I'm singing the Sinead O'Connor song, Nothing Compares to You. ... but it's all so true.

I recently started a new sort of business - well at least it's new to me - and already find myself wondering if it'll ever show a profit. But worse yet, I'm feeling like I'm a slave to it. Will never come close to the profit from an escort service, could never really take a vacation from it, and fear its demise if I don't meet the expectations of many on an ongoing basis. I'm feeling it's a big mistake. *sigh*

May all of the entrepreneurial people reading this have the best year ever. Resolve to make the most of your life this year.

Yellow Page and Print Ads

A reader contacted me this week with a question about placing an ad in the print yellow pages in his area. Here is his question and my response and I will also expound on the topic.

The question:

It's [redacted] from [redacted]. If you remember I have an exotic dancer booking agency. I had a quick question. I'd like to get your opinion on yellow page advertisements. I know in your book you suggest it and say its still going good, I know things can change a lot in a few years. Do you still suggest advertising in the book as of 2013-2014 , I can currently get a one inch color ad for $600 for the year. I have only 5 days tonight for the deadline, everybody I talk to is very much so against it and I do a lot of research and it seems a majority of advertisers say they wasted their money last year on the phone book. Do you think that the adult entertainment sector has more people searching for it than other services?

I have only several days to the deadline, and your opinion will be considered more than anybody else's at this point. Thank you.

The response:

Unless your market is L.A. or NYC, I still recommend yellow page listings. Is there a bold-print one-line ad available for less? A bold print in red would be even better.

There is still a segment of the population that will look for entertainers / escorts in the yellow pages, especially the over 60 crowd. I used to have some elderly clients that called regularly that were never interested in tech and I know for sure there are still lots of people like this out there. Hell, I still look in the yellow pages if I want a carpet cleaner or mechanic or maid service as there are too many fly-by-night services online.

Do you also offer the costumed striptease service? Like a stripper-gram for a birthday, retirement party etc...? That sort of service alone is worthy of its own red bold print one-line ad. Today you won't make a $million off it, but your business should have a presence in print. If you gave it a line of its own, you'd see the results, but I'm sure you'll get your money back and make something from a bold print ad anyway.

I believe the yellow pages says stability, quality, safe, accountable... and then there are the issues with online advertising for adult business being under attack by State Attorneys General all over the country. Are the people you're asking in your age group? I don't know your age [redacted], but would guess late 20s or early 30s and this group will not look at yellow pages, so you're correct with that. But the bored 70 or 80 year-old with his retirement income will, especially if he has had a negative experience online in past. And I am 53 - still look in the yellow pages for most services.

What I forgot to say...

Sometimes I assume that readers of my Blueprint books see the Blueprint Updates links here and on my website, but that depends where and how they found the book to begin with. I do have a short update on print ads on the Advertising page of the updates and really it is consistent with my response here:

However, the updates have not been updated for over a year now. I still feel the same on the topic of a print yellow pages ad, but only recommend a bold print one-line listing, preferably in red. This type of listing doesn't cost that much.

Another point that I should have made to my reader is that many of the yellow pages advertisers in other markets that he checked with may not have a clue if a customer originally found them in the yellow pages or not. When I am looking for a service in the print book, which I usually do, I then search for that business online. I figure everyone has a website even if it is not included in their small print ad and if they do not have a website where I can find more information, I do not use their service anyway.

So while a website is a must today for any business anywhere, I still feel that a small ad in the yellow pages print book that's widely distributed in your target area is necessary. Consider that the potential customer will Google your business name and/or your telephone number to find more information.

Are You Awake Yet

Have you been operating your escort business in the sunshine as advised in the book? I sure hope so. The only reason that I still exist is because I never make any statement anywhere that I couldn't explain to a jury if I had to one day.

Someone - one of those many that wanted a consultation with me recently - stated that my case was irrelevant today. Actually it is more relevant than it has ever been. I suffered through many years of illegal surveillance and harassment by an agency that would do absolutely anything to get rid of me, yet I prevailed. So diss my Blueprint books if you like, but thanks to Edward Snowden and WikiLeaks, I am finally vindicated in all that I stated.

We live in a surveillance state. This applies even if you're in Canada or the UK or anywhere else in the world or that matter. The US spies on everyone, specially anyone that could potentially be engaged in what they consider criminal activity, which has been revealed to be everyone. National security never had anything to do with it.

I was reading a doc over on the Cryptome website a few days ago about the DEA Hemisphere program. It's a slideshow PDF and refers to any calls that go through AT&T switches. Do realize that this does not mean AT&T alone - as much of the world's telephone traffic passes through AT&T at one point or another. If your wireless phone from Sprint or Verizon is roaming, it may be on the AT&T network - you'd never know. Anyway, it's an interesting read:

From a Reuters News article dated 6 September 2013:

In a statement on Friday, the Office of the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, which said it was speaking on behalf of all U.S. spy agencies, did not confirm details of the media reports.

The statement did acknowledge that the U.S. intelligence community "would not be doing its job" if it did not try to counter the use of encryption by such adversaries as "terrorists, cybercriminals, human traffickers and others."

Special attention to the "and others" part of that statement because it means you and me. They have had a backdoor into any and all of your online communications for years, including your bank account info. Nothing that is done online is private, so think about everything that you do online, even when you believed the transaction and/or visit to be private and/or secure.

I have been stating all of this for many years. If you paid attention, well, good for you. If you mocked me, well, be concerned, but more important, implement changes and do things differently from this moment forward. Personally, I believe they've been working on ruining the internet for all of us for years. Get your house in order before it's too late.

On the Topic of Consultations

I have received so many requests for consultations the last few months, yet have not had a single consult with anyone. In that respect, this is a necessary post and you'll know why by the time it's finished. In all honesty, I did not expect a single request to actually result in a consult anyway because they all read like pure BS.

I believe that more often than not, it's angry law enforcement officers and/or related to the Paul Bergrin case, which I have blogged on relentlessly for some time now, but am now done with. If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say that 9 out of 10 requests are related to the above two groups; perhaps even 10 of 10. Is that crazy or what? I consider it to be so. Too many people with far too much time on their hands while claiming to be public servants.

Some of the most absurd statements and consultation requests are moved to the "abuse" folder and others are deleted. Sometimes, when the message is cloudy, I'll respond and include instructions for payment and a link to my consultation page outlining what specifically I offer and how it works. There is a reason behind every statement made on that page. If you clearly have not read either Blueprint for an Escort Service or Complete Blueprint for an Escort Service, you'll need to pay for the Platinum package or the Max package. Obviously the reason for this is that I will be reading much of my book to you on the telephone, so one hour just ain't going to cut it. Really I have no clue why anyone that skipped reading one of those books would even want a consultation with me. Makes no sense whatsoever.

But I have no issue with reading one of the books to you over the phone. Payment is required in advance, of course.

And then there are the requests that I call you by dialing a number on your linked explicit website to schedule a consultation. Why anyone would consider me to be that desperate and/or stupid, I can't even imagine. Me calling you is a consultation and how in the hell would I know if that's your website or not? Duh.

But one of the most absurd sort of requests that I have had on occasion and as recent as last week is the federal inmate that sends me a Corrlinks request. I accept all such requests, well, because I am a nice person and have no clue what they want, but when the first email the inmate sends is a thank-you for agreeing to consult with him about opening an escort service in BOP email, well, expect to get blasted. I didn't agree to crap and only a total moron would ever consult on such a subject via BOP email.

This is what I get for being nice to people. Far too many, especially in LE, do not comprehend that kindness does not equal stupidity. In the last situation described, I responded not only with a blast, but also instructions to inform his handler that no one, let alone me, is that dumb. All informants have handlers. I will tell you that in short time and on the same day, I received a hang-up call from a Miami telephone number on my personal telephone number and that inmate had stated that he was from Miami. His release date in the BOP inmate locator was in 2017. No one should know my personal phone number anyway unless I give it to them and only a few friends have it. Some idiot looking for his next 5K1 or Rule 35 victim. Another duh.

Most recently - like yesterday - I received an extremely lengthy email from someone telling me all the steps he'd made towards opening and operating a service and not even one of those steps is anything close to what I recommend in either book. The party claimed to need a free consultation because he'd spent all his money on attorney consults and non-existent start-up costs, hiring bodyguards, and drivers and on and on and on... I couldn't make this stuff up people. I almost responded by asking him if his email was a joke, but decided to just move the email to that "abuse" folder instead. 

I have responded to numerous emails by asking if it was some weird joke lately - they seem to be rolling out of the closet (or coming out of the woodwork) these days, but I really can't get beyond anyone actually thinking I'm that level of stupid.

And then there are the people that email me attempting to change my mind about various things stated in the book and requesting a consultation at the same time. Of course each wants to know how to pay me immediately so that consult can be scheduled ASAP. Of course no money is ever sent to the method I state as the only way to pay me. Of course they email many more times trying desperately to convince me how wrong I am on specific topics. Right.

My books are what I think and nothing anyone could state will ever change my mind. And really who cares anyway? As with any book advising on business, it's up to you to take what you need and leave the rest. Whether you follow any or all of my advice is in the category of not my problem or none of my business. But I make this statement knowing that it is not real people contacting me with questionable lengthy emails. It is LE dumb enough to think they could succeed in prosecuting me for publishing books about opening and operating a legitimate service. The specific wording in statements reveals that much.

Like I already stated, I believe that at least 9 out of 10 of these requests are law enforcement / prosecutor / investigator related. For whatever strange reasoning, these dolts actually think I fell off a turnip truck somewhere in Idaho yesterday. Just crazy.

Aphrodite Companions Owners Arrested

A reader brought it to my attention this morning that Melissa and Vincent Lombardo, the owners of Aphrodite Companions, were both arrested yesterday. Melissa is known to most as Pamela. In the distant past, I exchanged numerous emails with Pamela and she was very nice and respectful, though we found no common ground for discussion.

Aphrodite Companions was one more business that faced indictment because of how they operated. Really they are charged with money laundering that is based on violating the New York law of promoting prostitution by the feds. I'm sort of surprised that the Travel Act (over the touring escorts) was not thrown in the federal complaint, but the actual indictment is not filed yet, so this is still a possibility.

Read the complaint, which I downloaded in PACER this morning, to understand why you should never participate in the TER (the erotic review) game. I have said it before and I'll say it again: TER is where local and federal agents investigating prostitution participate. The forums are entrenched with cops, whether you choose to believe it or not. The complaint and a few other docs:

I dare you to read that complaint and defend TER to me. At this point, the Lombardos are being held without bail, though they do have arraignment in early August - the 1st I believe. They are both better off staying in custody - that way when they plead to charges, the time served will be counted. And they will eventually plead to charges in this case.

The investigator in this case is a NYPD detective. You could bet your last $ that he's on TER. At any rate, Pamela seemed like a nice woman to me and I am sorry that this has happened to her. I'd also bet that there's an escort or two involved. I have read numerous online stories about Aphrodite Companions written by women claiming to have worked there, but have serious doubts about the veractity of each.

I will post an update when the indictment is available - probably within a week or so.

 

 

Current Spying Scandal: An Idea

Of course you're not doing anything illegal or even incorrect with your new escort service business. Still, no one wants all of their inner communications tracked. With the current news in reference to government spying, thanks to Edward Snowden, my previous statements on the topic have been vindicated. Though I do not feel the statements I've made since late 2001 / early 2002 require any sort of vindication. So, if you called me paranoid, well, you missed the boat. They did it illegally before the Patriot Act passed in October 2001, and then legally thereafter. I read the Act as soon as the legislation passed, but none of our representatives did before signing it and now they're all acting surprised.

I want you to read the information available on the website, so I'm not offering a complete discussion here, but Silent Circle is a project of Phil Zimmermann. If you were online back in the 90s, you'll remember Mr. Zimmermann's creation of PGP - Pretty Good Privacy - an encryption and decryption program used with email.

On 21 June 2013, more information was released by The Guardian in relation to the "direct access" mentioned earlier by Edward Snowden. The way I am viewing it, this has no effects on the use of Silent Circle, but I need to take some time and look closer at the technical details. The article:

The article is a must read for anyone concerned with privacy in my opinion. Much of this information with documents has been available on the Cryptome website for years (many), but the general population paid little attention. Now that the stories have gone mainstream, people are concerned and that's a good thing.

In my oh so humble opinion, one must always assume that all communications are monitored these days. This is guidance that I have lived by since at least the year 1994, with the exception of a few angry outbursts at parties that harassed and abused me too long for comfort. That rule of life has served me well, especially last night. Feel free to take that last statement however you wish.

If I do not respond to an email you have sent me, it's because you're not as intelligent as you seem to believe. As a matter of fact, I'm adding a new rule to my life today... If I receive an email that's in any way legally compromising to me, it will be simply deleted as that's what the little trashcan icon is for. Party Booking Issues

Many of you are opening escort services and also booking parties as a side business. No service should book parties unless they can manage to do it correctly. A main point is that a few drunk men can never be referred to as a "party" as this situation is not bookable.

I define "party" as an event usually planned well in advance and with a theme, such as a birthday celebration, a bachelor party, a retirement get-together. As the business, you would send professional, experienced entertainers with the required costumes, music, and party favors to the location. The dancers must have security or a chaperone and there is no way that you should ever book any party without - as I use the terms "chaperone" and "security" they are one and the same thing.

In past I recall services in Orlando that booked any group of drunken men, called it a party, and sent an escort or two to dance alone. Nothing like that will ever be a party. I used to book parties and simply passed the information on to a professional dancer for a fee. I quoted what the entertainer asked me to quote and informed the client booking the party of how it would work per my discussion with her. The entertainer called the client back and made the final arrangement.

The dancers or entertainers should have their own chaperone and usually this is a male friend or even a boyfriend, but the dancers should never go alone. A professional dancer that has worked in a decent adult club knows better than to accept an open drink from anyone. Of course an escort should know this too, but you'd be surprised...

An example of an escort service booking a party that went bad is the Duke lacrosse player saga from North Carolina back in 2006. I do consider the escort service that booked this mess to be at fault. No way the booker should have ever sent two escorts to a frat party without security to begin with. In the days that followed, it became clear that Crystal Mangum accepted an open drink at that party and if she did so there, it's more than likely that she did so earlier as well.

While I do not pretend to know who specifically assaulted Crystal Mangum or even whether it happened at that party or at earlier calls she was dispatched to, it's clear to me that she was drugged. Her statements and behavior in the 2-3 days that followed revealed that much. Of course she was unable to identify her attackers and it's hard for me to understand why anyone could think it possible to begin with. In my opinion, prosecutors did not even consider that she was drugged and I do not believe she was tested for specific drugs (like Rohypnol) immediately after it happened.

The name of the escort service that Ms. Mangum worked with was Allure Escort Service in Raleigh and I have no idea if they're still in business or not. You will find that the articles remaining online today are biased against Ms. Mangum. However, earlier statements made it all too obvious that she was drugged by someone somewhere - there is no question in my mind. Yes, I was once drugged at a club in Orlando back in the mid-1990s and I know the symptoms, lack of a focused memory of anything etc....

Because of the way the investigation was handled and the fact that no one bothered to test for specific drugs, Crystal Mangum has suffered ever since. She is currently awaiting trial on a murder charge. The main point here is that none of this should have ever happened. If Allure did not book a bunch of intoxicated college players and send out escorts with no chaperone, it would not have happened.

Please follow my advice in the book as it relates to booking parties. I will add that it is a good idea to have a short discussion with each escort at the initial interview concerning accepting open drinks from any client, no matter that he is alone or how trustworthy you may believe him to be or if he is a repeat. I recall one escort in past that was turned away from a call because she refused to accept a glass of wine from an open bottle at a repeat client's residence as soon as she arrived. Better safe than sorry.

If you are unable to book parties using professional, experienced entertainers that have their own chaperone(s) as a side business, then do not book parties at all. There are professional entertainment companies that you could make arrangements with in advance to earn a referral fee.

Hello dear escort business entrepreneurs!

I know that I have been missing in action lately and it is a combination of factors. A main reason is that there is not much to say - if you are interested in opening an escort service, you need to purchase Blueprint for an Escort Service and you will learn all you need to know. Another factor at the forefront is my blog in defense of Paul Bergrin, a great attorney and courtroom brawler, who is suffering an unimaginable prosecution.

Not much changes with the escort or entertainment industry except marketing and advertising venues and approaches. I have some updated information in the Blueprint Updates on my website, but have been lax for the last 4 months. I doubt that much has changed anyway, so most likely no one missed me.

I do hope that my readers understand the importance of my posting on the Paul Bergrin Blog and ignoring my other blogs. If you do not, you will if you ever have need for a zealous attorney to defend you in a courtroom. As most of you are aware, I had such a need in past when I faced decades in prison as a result of a wrongful prosecution. Make no mistake - Bergrin's defense abilities in a courtroom play a definitive part in the reason he was indicted.

A woman that publicly claimed to be the most expensive escort in the world testified in Bergrin's trial a couple of weeks ago. That woman is Natalie McLennan and she worked for Jason Itzler, owner of New York Confidential years ago. Her testimony to nothing much, as she witnessed nothing anyway, was in exchange for a plea deal to a misdemeanor instead of a felony. I was not kind to her in my posts, for good reason.

Anyway, I will be posting in the near future on the topic of parties: bachelor parties, birthday parties and all types of parties that would require one to book strippers. For the moment, I just wanted to let you know that I am still alive and blogging for purpose on a different blog.

Do Not Mess with the IRS

A federal case filed recently in Las Vegas was brought to my attention by a reader of my blogs. I retrieved all of the available documents from PACER and they're uploaded to my Updates (Documents) page of my website. The only named defendant in the case is Emmanouil (Manny) Varagiannis and though the indictment includes numerous statements referencing prostitution, there is no actual charge for anything related. The charges involve transaction structuring to evade reporting requirements.

Transaction structuring is defined as making deposits to a financial institution (banks in this case) and "structuring" to avoid the requirement that a report be filled out by the bank teller for deposits of $10K and over. According to what I read, one bank teller sort of advised him to divide deposits and avoid the government form and that's where it all began.

As for the allegations of prositution in his escort business, or rather outcall promoter business, the man is not charged with anything related. I believe that detectives in Las Vegas managed to bust an escort or two, but that certainly won't make a legal case against the acting manager, which is the position Varagiannis holds. Some woman that is owner of a men's club and was obviously involved with him in past made allegations, but I do not see anything in any document claiming there to be a wiretap or tape of the admissions the woman claims that Varagiannis made privately.


Scorned woman syndrome or what?

It does seem that way from what I read in the indictment and other documents. Apparently detectives approached the woman at her club and the conversation evolved to what is stated in the indictment:

Really this is all about structuring to avoid IRS reporting requirements. This is a main reason that if opening and operating an escort business or an outcall promotion company, you need to see an accountant. If you open in Vegas, you need an accountant immediately and before an attorney. Clark County charges a % of the gross income as a part of the license, so there's no way you could procrastinate on the accountant.

There are other allegations in the indictment that refer to a program offering taxi drivers kickbacks for referrals. I am not clear on why it is even mentioned as it is not illegal to do so; however, the cabbie (taxi driver) would of course be responsible to report any money earned on his income tax filings.

The bottom line to this case is do not mess with the IRS, no matter how anyone at a bank suggests you structure your deposits. You are responsible. More on this case as documents are made available.

Escort Services and Google Places

Many of you have experienced your Google Places escort service listings being deleted in the last 6 months. I discussed this previously a few posts back. However, if you have followed the guidelines stated back in March and again in July 2012, and checked the box to "hide your address" - your Places listing should show. All listings that were deleted should be reinstated.

A search for "Miami escorts" (substitute any city) today shows a bunch of absolutely irrelevant listings. For example, a financial planner, armed security services, animal control, a photography design studio, a magician, a university, a high school, a law firm etc... How absurd, right? These people have literally ruined Places. The good news is that now you can make them repair it by resubmitting your listing..

It was indeed a couple of renegade Map Makers that have caused all these troubles. They would have someone higher in the group that despised escort services as they did approve the delete while claiming that it was the rule. It was never the rule as I stated back in July. Escort Services are allowed listings in Places. This has been, once again, confirmed by Google. Push it as far as you must and keep resubmitting the listing until it shows.

We have been hearing various concerns on forum about redirecting mappers to Google Places for certain listings that are Service Area Businesses (SABs). Here are the details,

• Google Places carries out specific verification process to verify the physical location of businesses and SABs in particular.
• Google Places also gets in touch with the owner of the SAB in order to get specific details and verify them to avoid spam.
• Map Maker currently does not have this facility
• There have been higher instances of spam in SABs
• Its advisable for mappers adding SABs, to add them through Google Places to ensure correct business verification

So it is not Google's fault, except in that they were of no assistance to anyone that suffered a deleted listing. Apparently enough of you complained and they have made the policy clear. Do not allow these renegade Map Makers to get away with deleting your listings. Let's repair Places. Just make sure that you follow the Google Places guidelines for Service Area Businesses (SABs).

Social Media and the Escort Business

I admit to making little use of social media to sell my books or for any other reason. I'm not really a social person, I am wary of anyone following me, and I consider a major company collecting large amounts of information suspect to say the least. Clearly I am not the best advocate for using social media to promote your escort service or entertainment company.

The online world has experienced serious change since I first had an escort service website in 1993. Back then I had the second escort service on the internet. I have little doubt that there were other escort businesses promoting on BBSes (Bulletin Board Systems) and in chat rooms, but I never really had an interest in BBS or IRC in relation to the escort business. Remember – back then we had dial-up. I didn't get ADSL until 1998, and I was one of the first in Orlando to have it. Bellsouth sent four network techs to my house to install it. Can you imagine?

Most of you are already aware that your tweets with Twitter are archived and housed in the Library of Congress. Your websites probably will be included in the Internet Archive project, which started in 1996. Facebook does archive messages and posts. I am not yet clear on Google Plus archiving practices, but we should assume they archive everything.

So how does this help the adult business owner? The truth is that it doesn't. This is not the sort of business that you want everyone to connect in. I would skip Facebook and Twitter entirely and focus on Google Plus. On the other hand, if you have a stripper-gram or a bachelor party only type of business, you should be using all of these mediums to promote.

I think that anyone with any type of business can make good use of Google Plus though. The best use includes Google + Pages which is really targeted to businesses. This will actually be tied to a Google Places listing in an account. I have not made any sort of use of it yet and only recently signed-up for Google +, but if you use your imagination, you will realize that the possibilities are endless for your business. You can also use Google + Hangouts to have conversations with a specific circle of people. Make sure to read about Hangouts!

I will take it an additional step here. If you join Google + and follow me, I will follow you back. You would be in my “Adult Business” circle. You can have many circles with Google + and use Hangouts to have discussion with specific people in circles. Really a wonderful concept! My Google Plus Profile - Please do excuse the 2008 photo. I look the same except that I stopped coloring my hair and it is gray, which is why you will see that same photo for a long time.

You won't be able to create a bunch of aliases though. Google does allow a person an alias, but read the article and the names policy before you begin:

Google + Page and Profile Names

Do read the policies on names carefully. If you screw-up it can indeed cost you your Google account. They want your real, identifiable name and if you lie and create the account using an alias, you will be booted. I know that you can arrange it and make it work. If you read my book, you are operating your business correctly and are licensed to operate. This is really important for your business. 

Vilifying the Escort Service Owner

The vilification of escort business owners is something that I have seen often in the last 20 years, but more recently it has escalated with each indictment or arrests that involved owners and operators. The high number of people (mainly independent escorts) voicing a hatred of escort service owners in online forums most recently is a result of the Classy DC Escorts indictment and the inclusion of the gun/violence charge.

The truth about the use of a gun and threats by the owner of Classy DC Escorts (if it even happened), is that these people were robbing him. The escorts he allegedly threatened and the driver/booker that he allegedly beat while “brandishing a gun” were stealing from him and the business – the thievery is a fact. If it is all true then he needs an anger management class – no one was actually shot or anything – and to learn to walk away from thieves that rip his wallet from his pocket. As hard as it is to do this, walking away is the only choice.

As I visited various forums shortly after the indictment was handed down, the vicious nature of the posts and clear hatred of escort service owners was all too obvious. I didn't say a word as I do not know anyone connected to Classy DC. Back when Jeane Palfrey (the former DC Madam) was arrested, convicted, and then committed suicide, the posters were 90% vicious bitches from hell. Many were considering her suicide to be reason for celebration. I couldn't hold my tongue and I let them have it – Jeane often caught and said goodbye to thieves. I haven't posted on the TER or Big Doggie forums since.

The bottom line is that if these independents didn't like working with the service, all each had to do was leave, exit, open their own damn business. Just as there is no real excuse for “brandishing a gun” in attempt to retrieve stolen money, there is also no excuse for the thieves. One crime is no better than the other! (actually as long as no one was really shot, I consider brandishing a gun to be the lesser offense)

There will be many independents that cross your path and steal your fees at every opportunity. I still have one that I refer to as “the Christmas thief,” but really it was my fault that she got away with as much as she did. If I had been paying attention as I should have been, the most she could have stolen was a fee or two. As angry as I was at the time, mainly due to my misplaced trust, I knew that my only option was to walk away. That was what I did.

I wonder how they'd feel if any owned a restaurant and an employee was stealing from the register on a nightly basis. Would they blame the party that threatened or even hit the thief? The restaurant owner has the option of dialing the police, but the escort service owner really does not.

Some anonymous party posted a wild and unprovable allegation against the owner of Classy DC on my other blog a couple of days ago, but I deleted it in minutes. I figure that he was in the business since 2006-07, and the feds were investigating from around the middle of 2009, so if such a crazy accusation was not included in the indictment, it has to be entirely baseless and the anonymous poster probably plays a part in the case (like informant).

Every time a newspaper comes out with a story about an underage prostitute being pimped on Backpage, the same crowd lays the blame on the existence of escort services. Only a complete moron would blame the entire escort industry because some idiot commits such crimes. But isn't that exactly what they're all doing by demanding the removal of the “adult services” and “escorts” categories on Backpage? Everyone is supposed to pay for the crimes of a few. Not in this lifetime. I hope that Backpage holds its ground.

Anytime an escort business owner is arrested or indicted many blame the entire industry, as if we all had some hand in the party's business or do everything as they did. A main rule here is that all escort services are not created equal. No two services operate exactly the same. I do not know about everyone else in the biz, but I am sick and effing tired of being called a pimp by idiots and thieves. If the escorts didn't want to be escorts, they wouldn't be. Don't let these people pull your leg – they all want the damn money.

The Escort Business: Reflections and Thoughts

I hope that the readers of this blog are having a happy new year, or at least are on the road to a better future. Many of you arrive at this blog by typing the phrase how to open an escort service so I must imagine that this is your intention.

This blog actually gets more reads than my Accused Madam Blog, unless I am blogging about topics of interest to many people, like trials in the news or well-known cases like the Miami Companions case or the Southwest Companions arrests. I never intentionally ignore this blog – it's just that there isn't much that has changed in the escort business, so what is there to say?

When I offered two of my books free through Amazon Kindle store at the end of 2011, the downloads overwhelmingly (4 to 1) favored my “Memoirs” book and not the “Blueprint” book. I considered this odd as I sell so few copies of Memoirs in comparison to any of the Blueprint books. If you missed the free offer I am sorry, but it's available at a low price for anyone actually interested in opening an escort service.

The tech aspect of opening and operating an escort service is always evolving, but the rest of it stays the same. As the internet and search indexing change so do the businesses seeking clients online. I found no solid reasoning to publish a new edition of “Blueprint” over tech stuff as I am not an expert on that topic anyway. Just build a website viewable and findable on smartphones and laptops alike and do not forget the new focus on local and you'll do fine.

State and federal law enforcement agencies have not paid anymore attention to the escort business than they always have and often this is dependent on the area you choose to operate in and the level of acceptance. Always take the safe and consistent side and realize that all money is not good money. Learn to walk away. Realize that you owe no one an explanation for anything that you do. When people start questioning me, I start making up stuff. No random stranger or old acquaintance appearing out of nowhere should ever be questioning you and if it happens, head the other direction quick.

A person that I have posted an article about on both blogs long ago (Doug Ketcher of the former Sweethearts Escorts of South Florida) dropped by to comment as he was recently released from prison. I am sure that his ordeal is not anything that any of you ever want to go through and I implore you to pay attention to what I have stated in the book. I feel for Mr. Ketcher, but at the same time, I didn't have his party and neither should you. Acceptance of credit cards for your business and pretending the IRS doesn't exist as you rake in the big$$$s could place you in harm's way and it is never “worth it” as Mr. Ketcher stated in the comment.

And then there is the New York High Class case.... There were drugs involved in the case and it is not just an escort service prosecution. I have no clue if the many defendants are guilty of anything or not, but according to the indictment, the case involved drug delivery to clients. A similar set-up of the infamous Jason Itzler (of NY Confidential fame) took place a couple of months later in the same jurisdiction. Just skip the drugs and you won't have the sort of problems that any of these defendants currently do. Your mommy should have taught you that much, but if she didn't then take heed of the warning now.

Realize that most of the YouTube videos posted on my blogs have significance to me in one area of life or another. I have never just posted random videos. Not that it matters to you... I'm just sayin'....

If you have attempted to post a short comment and link to your escort website here in past, please realize that if I allowed all comments with adult business links to go through, this blog would be finished in short time. I like my blogs and the US is a censored country, no matter what they tell you, so the comments won't be posted.

On a rare occasion I will let a comment and link to a conservative site go through, but I check that link later to make sure it hasn't evolved into a porn site. One semi-intelligent poster dropped his real comment with a profile link on my other blog long ago and the profile was nothing that mattered at that time, but soon readers were flocking to this seemingly unimportant article. Yes, his profile link became a XXX explicit porn advertisement. It was deleted.

I recently changed my consultation policy on my website to accommodate the small group of people that asked everything from..., well, you have the idea, I'm sure. In the books I do advise that you are welcome to contact me with a question or two and you still are, but if it reaches the point of exasperation and is too time consuming for me, I'll be responding with a link to the consultant page of my website. The one party that actually paid for email consults actually turned out to be really nice and just wants to make damn sure everything is correct. That is something I do understand. Just realize that I cannot hold your hand through the set-up and opening of a business as it places me in jeopardy.

Realize that I do not allow anyone to place me in legal jeopardy. This is something that I learned form my many years in the business and my subsequent prosecution and acquittal by jury. Yes, people have tried – one too recently for comfort. If I even suspect that your goal is to throw me under a bus for your own prosecution, well, I react different ways. Sometimes I ignore the party and other times I just start making stuff up, but whichever route I choose, realize that you are no match for me, at least not in anything even remotely related to the escort business.

Last, but not least, please do not bother downloading my titles for free on one of those illegal file sharing websites. Realize that I can't be in the business because of my past and I barely survive. I don't think $8-10 is too much to pay for a book that could help you make hundreds of thousands of $s legally and safely, do you?

Announcement: Blueprint Updates

In the near future, all Blueprint updates will be in the Blueprint Updates section of my website. I decided not to publish any future editions of any Blueprint books because there really isn’t that much to update with the exception of tech-related information.

All information in relation to website hosting and design is found on the Websites page. Working with WordPress websites is simple once you do it once and it doesn’t take too much effort to learn. These days a local presence is absolutely necessary and all updated information is found on the Focus on Local page. Any important updates related to advertising your business, including both print and online, is located on the Advertising page. Last, but not least, if using a variation of the business model in the books is of interest to you, visit the Business Models page for ideas and information.

A main theme that I will be focusing on is reaching your audience that is online via a mobile device, tablet, or smartphone. My recent research has revealed that this is how the great majority of clients and customers are searching and your website(s) and ads should be targeting this market more than any other.

Some information from the Blueprint Updates on this blog is repeated as it is still current, but there will be much new information on the above noted pages also.

I expect to be finished with this section of the website by the day after Christmas. I have been ill and am not able to do much each day or it would already be completed. I do intend to continue blogging here in the future, but not in reference to Blueprint updates.

Registration Begins on XXX Domains

Today begins registration for the new .xxx domain names. I found an excellent article in the International Business Times that explains the registrations schedule far better than I could and it includes a chart: .XXX Domain Registration: A Cheat Sheet for the Sunrise

I do not care for the segregation aspect of .xxx and feel that it will make blocking all adult websites, no matter how conservative in design, much easier for ISPs, hotels, and anyone else that so desires. However, if you already have a TLD (top level domain), you really do need to buy the matching .xxx if nothing else.

Open an Escort Business Anywhere

My Blueprint books are really more easily applied in the US, but they do have information that is useful anywhere in the world too. I must imagine that most areas of the globe have zoning rules and licenses to enter any type of business. Interacting with the escorts and answering the telephone is similar anywhere – in some areas you can be more open than in others. How to answer a telephone and collect your money would also be more the same than different in any geographical location.

There are some areas of the planet I which a person would go about many aspects of the business differently, even within the US, and certainly between the US and Canada, for example. Really it all comes down to the level of acceptance for adult business on an outcall basis. It is the level of acceptance in any geographical area that will ultimately determine how you operate and the type of license that you will want.

Another disparity will be communications: You must advertise and market in the way that is most accepted in the area you choose. It does no good to market your business entirely online if potential clients in the area look at local newspapers. It also won't help to place a print ad if all the clients are online. Every geographical area has its own unique attributes and it is your responsibility to research for the area that you intend to open the escort business.

There are some areas that are truly unique. In the US, Las Vegas is one of them. This of course relates to the level of acceptance and adult business has always been welcome in Vegas. At the same time, Vegas is a highly competitive area and starting an escort service on a small budget is not really possible.

Goodbye to the Old Maps

An anonymous poster commented on Inventing a New Business Model (last comment at this time) that Google no longer offers phone verification for new listings, at least not in the “escort services” category. In other words they now want to mail you a postcard so the address in the listing must be correct. An excerpt from the comment:

“Google no longer offers phone verification for new business listings. I'm sure it's because of the category (Escort Services) I'm trying to submit a new listing under. I've tried pretty much everything to create an account this past month (using different IP"s, submitting to local directories, followed by Google Places, etc.) - but to no avail. The rules have changed, and it's no longer possible to enter rogue addresses for new listings...”

Perhaps this is where the Virtual Office could come in handy, even if you have an over-priced broom closet in a challenging (read crime ridden) area of the county as many in Las Vegas and Clark County must to obtain the “outcall promoter” license. If you're opening a service in Las Vegas you have probably figured out that you will be paying between $600 and $1000 a month for a broom closet that you'll never use, except of course to hang your license on the wall.

In my opinion, challenging Clark County on the requirement of the M-1 or M-D zoned office for the “outcall promoter” license is not really intelligent. Why? Well because they are otherwise friendly – they just want your money (for the license and the 1% of your gross revenue). It is best to choose your battles wisely.

Many office buildings in good areas close to McCarren International Airport or near the Strip offer virtual office space for a low monthly rate. They even toss in access to their meeting rooms so it could be the location that you use to interview escorts, dancers, and strippers initially. No escort in her right mind will want to meet with you at your broom closet office in an industrial/manufacturing area.

Now you could use that appropriately priced virtual office address for Google to mail you a postcard. Make sure that you rent one in a building as close as possible to the Strip resorts as the address should be in a good geographical proximity for this purpose. What's another $200-300 a month to have a real interview/ meeting room to use and an address for Google Places to send a postcard? Of course you could also use it for your listing address in Local.com or to receive all mail for your business. That's the point of the Virtual Office.

The thing about Google Places (formerly Maps) is that the top listings really ring the phone. If you are open to flexible pricing and quote a lower rate on that phone line, you'll be in the money. If you quote the same rates as you do on your website it is a waste of time. Quote $300 an hour in Orlando and you will say goodbye to 10 to 20 potential clients daily, on the average. If these blind callers wanted to pay that price they'd view your website, see the escorts, and pay it. People that call Maps listings are shopping around based on price.

Do not attempt to include a website in your Places/Maps listing as Google won't allow any in that have “escort” or “escort service” in the domain name, at least that is my latest research conclusion. No problem though – simply give your callers a website address with the lower rate and photos of the escorts as this is frequently requested.

The bottom line is that you'll spend a few hundred $s for that Maps listing and use of the meeting rooms, but as stated previously, the phone really rings and allows the opportunity to adjust your rate and book lots of calls. If you booked three (3) calls a month and charged $100 fee from the escorts for each call you would cover costs, but I am sure that you'll do better than that if you're flexible on rates.

 Of course you could also use your actual office in the industrial area for the Maps listing, but then a business with an address closer to the Strip or the particular resort the searcher is at will show in the listings above yours. This is using Las Vegas as an example and it could be different in your city and you may be able to actually have your office in the best area for business.

Edit @5pm to add: I looked on Craigslist in the office / commercial space category and found many listings for "virtual offices" that include a mailing address and box, use of conference rooms, and 24 hour access. This could easily be used for all mailing for your business and to schedule interviews and use the conference room. I believe that most cities have many listings in this category. Make sure the address is in the geographic proximity of where you want to book calls, for the purpose of the Maps listings.

Life evolves and we must evolve along with it.

Inventing a New Business Model

It is a fact that life is always evolving. Technology improves and situations change and we must go with the flow and change as well. Some changes are for the better and some are not. Sometimes there are new beneficiaries to changes in technologies and situations in life - even anti-adult business crusades.

A reviewer of my Blueprint book on Amazon made a statement that stuck in my mind - the review is titled Incredibly Useful Book, and the statement:

"...This book doesn't have 100% of the answers. Each area and each philosophy have their own complexities. But it has really valid guidance for anyone in the adult entertainment industry. For your tiny investment, you'll get thousands of dollars worth of information."

In other words, there is much information to gain from the book, though there is no one size fits all plan. There are probably as many ways of doing business as there are people in the business, and every geographical area has its issues that are specific to the area. Anyway, this isn't a book ad, so on to the idea of inventing a new business model.

Ideas always evolve and my last post was the beginning of an idea. There are a variety of situations that have changed in the escort business in the past few months.

Craigslist eliminated "adult services" and "erotic services" in the US a few months ago and as of this weekend they have eliminated these categories worldwide. Some entrepreneurial adult business owners were placing ads on Craigslist outside of the US for businesses in the US, and now that is cut.

Google Places/Maps has evolved to the point that one doesn't want to include a website with any listing because Google has issues with any adult business landing page - even when the dancers, strippers, entertainers, escorts or whatever are dressed and it is an "R" rated website. I admit that I don't get it, but then that is immaterial, right?

Backpage has adult categories as of this point in time (LOL - see date of this post), but I seriously doubt that this will continue for much longer.

I am finding that it is taking an excessively long time for escort businesses to be indexed in Google's regular search results as well these days. I'm not sure when all of this began, but I submitted several sites a couple of months ago and none show where they need to show as of yet. Perhaps this isn't a completely new problem: A few years ago it was over six months before the research site that I've used showed in the appropriate keyword phrases, but then I really didn't work at it at all either so it was unnoticeable at the time.

There isn't much money in selling ad space to independent escorts, unless you've been doing it for a while and your website is well-known in the world of adult business. Unless you have some reason to be happy with earning close to nothing for the first year or two of business this idea should be out.

I posted about the Craigslist situation on my Accused Madam Blog tonight and at the moment the best category name for the new business model that I could come-up with was appointment referral publisher. I will work at renaming the category this week, but this is the business idea behind the name:

As a business you'll only be charging entertainers and escorts one referral fee - this depends on what rate you quote as your fee will be higher if you quote higher, otherwise you have no incentive to quote a higher rate for the independent contractors. The idea is to have lots of escorts/entertainers to call at any point that you are answering. You can give only basic information - name, telephone number, and address or include some sort of verified information. The Blueprint books get into verifying.

The general rule would be that the escort or entertainer must call back immediately if she isn't going to the appointment.
